Frankston Heights takes part in the RACV Energy Breakthrough Challenge annually. This is a competition involving human-powered vehicles (HPVs), these vehicles are recumbent trikes that have a specifically built shell and exterior. The students race the vehicles in teams in a 14hour long endurance race, taking it in turns to ride around a 1.2km track. The teams also make a presentation that outlines their involvement in the program and the importance of sustainable energy sources. The competition is run over 3 days each November in the Victorian town of Maryborough.
A number of our Year 5/6 students have the opportunity to be involved in this program, FHPS enters two teams each year. It is a great chance to involve our parents and wider community in a highly valuable initiative.
